Safety always comes first at The Dolls House. We require a skin test at least 48 hours before any colour or tint service to ensure you don’t react to the products used. This includes hair colour, highlights, toners, lash/brow tinting and more. It’s quick, simple and free – and gives both you and your stylist peace of mind. Even if you’ve coloured your hair before, a skin test is still required if it’s your first visit to us or if it’s been 6 months or more.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a skin test?
It’s a simple patch test to check for allergic reactions to hair dye, toner, or tint products before your treatment.
How long before my appointment should I have it?
You’ll need to come in at least 48 hours before your colour or tint appointment.
Do I really need one if I’ve coloured my hair before?
Yes – even if you’ve coloured before, reactions can develop over time. If you’re new to us or it’s been 6+ months, we’ll need to re-test.
What services require a skin test?
Any service using tint or dye: permanent or semi-permanent hair colour, highlights with toner, root tints, toners, lash tint, brow tint, and vivid colours.
Is it painful or uncomfortable?
Not at all – it’s a quick dab of product behind your ear or on your arm. You can leave straight after and we’ll check if you react.
What happens if I react?
If there’s any irritation, redness or discomfort, we won’t proceed with colour. We'll talk through safe alternatives and options.
Where is the salon based?
We’re in Old Town, Eastbourne, and regularly welcome clients from Pevensey, Polegate, Hailsham, and surrounding areas.
